Creamy white to light reddish brown with closed, subdued
grain and some figuring- quilted, fiddle back, curly or
bird's-eye. Bird's-eye maple is generally separated at
the mill and can be used for the whole floor or just as
a feature strip. Maple is harder than oak with excellent
shock resistance, often used in bowling alleys and gymnasiums.
Maple, however, does not stain uniformly. It is also a
little more susceptible to seasonal shrinkage than oak.
